The climate crisis has long been a health crisis, writes the science journalist Christina Berndt in her multi -layered and informative book “Climate Silence”. Among other things, it refers to the psychological effects of future fears due to climate change and the aftermath of environmental disasters.
One of the causes of the health crisis is that climate change postpone the seasons and, for example, allergy sufferers often have to suffer all year round. That extreme heat summer threaten to become the rule. That species death leads to a biodiversity crisis, which means that the so -called dilution effect occurs. This ensures that, in addition to invasive species, new and exhausted diseases are spreading to us. The risk of further pandemics also increases.
Christina Berndt spoke to a number of scientists from various research fields for her educational and warning band and explained their study results in an understandable manner. The nine chapters are a mixture of sound description and analysis as well as solution-oriented advice, including a resilience kit to strengthen mental resistance.
In the end, the author gives us courage: the climate crisis is bad, but we can prepare ourselves and develop strategies for dealing with it. Alexander Schramm
