You’ll soon be able to download and install several software updates including iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1, macOS 26.1 and watchOS 26.1 for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. The updates fix several bugs, but also add new features.
The most important addition is Apple Intelligence in Dutch. In addition, the new software updates include Slide Over for iPad, you can further customize the Liquid Design, disable certain options and more. We list all the new options for you.
Apple Intelligence in Dutch
We had to wait a while, but Apple Intelligence will also be available in the Dutch. New languages will be added in late October/early November in conjunction with iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1 Tahoe.

Apple Intelligence is Apple’s AI system that makes your iPhone, iPad and Mac smarter and more personal by using generative models and your personal context. It performs tasks such as summarizing notifications, enhancing texts, and creating images, while protecting your privacy by allowing many processes to occur locally on your device or via secure Private Cloud Compute.
Swipe to disable camera lock screen
For iOS and iPadOS, you can now disable the swipe to open camera on the Lock screen via Settings â–¸ Camera â–¸ Swipe on Lock screen to open camera. This prevents unwanted activation of the camera.
Customize Liquid Glass
Do you think that the Liquid Glass is too transparent and do you believe that some parts are difficult to read? Then you can adjust the level of transparency from iOS 26.1, iPadOS 26.1 and macOS 26.1. From now on you can choose ‘frosted glass’ instead of ‘translucent glass’.
- Open Settings
- Go to ‘Screen and brightness’
- Tap ‘Liquid Glass’
- Choose ‘Clear’ or ‘Tint’

On a Mac you can adjust this via  ▸ System Settings ▸ Display ▸ Liquid Glass ▸ Clear or Tinted.
Security improvements
In iOS 26.1, Apple has updated the Background Security Enhancements feature. In the Privacy & Security section of the Settings app, you can now find a toggle that allows iPhone to automatically download and install security improvements in the background. This feature replaces and modernizes the previous system called ‘quick security measures’, so devices stay protected against new vulnerabilities faster and without manual updates.
Slide over for iPad
With iPadOS 26.1, the popular multitasking feature Slide Over is back on the iPad. This feature disappeared with the introduction of iPadOS 26, much to the dismay of many users, but Apple has now apparently listened to the feedback and officially re-added Slide Over.
Slide Over lets you float one app over another app in a smaller, floating window, which is useful for quickly sending a message or checking something without switching apps. In iPadOS 26.1, Slide Over works with the new window system and lets you resize the floating window, although you can still only use one app at a time in Slide Over.

You activate it via the green dot at the top left of an app window, place your finger on these colored dots and choose ‘Slide over’, then you can easily swipe the app in and out of view
Stop alarm with sliding movement
After all this criticism, Apple has probably decided to change the design. As of iOS 26.1, a stop button is no longer prominently shown under the sleep option, but a sliding switch.

Just like when recording a telephone conversation, you have to slide the stop button to the right to stop the alarm. This will ensure that people are less likely to accidentally stop the alarm instead of hitting snooze.
