Fisker wants to market a worldwide player with the Ocean. That is why it also wants to build the electric SUV around the world. For Europe, this will probably happen in Austria.
Fisker wants to build the Ocean, unveiled at the beginning of this year, in its home country of the US, in China and in Europe. In these markets, the brand hopes to achieve significant sales numbers, and local production can provide an important advantage in this respect. The American brand has already stated that it was still eagerly looking for a location in Europe and now seems to have found it. According to Reuters there are extensive talks between Fisker and Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria. A Memorandum of Understanding has already been signed. Magna would take over production of the Ocean from 2022 on a definitive deal. Magna (which has decades of experience) is currently responsible for the production of the Jaguar i-Pace and the BMW 5-series, among others. The Mercedes-Benz G-class has been built there since 1979.
With the Ocean, Fisker hopes to make the life of the Tesla Model Y miserable. The SUV has an 80 kWh battery pack on board, which allows the EV to travel almost 500 km on one charge. Of course there is also a good dose of sporting performance; the top version must shoot from a standstill to 60 mph (96 km / h) in 2.9 seconds. The Ocean comes with both front and four-wheel drive. In terms of appearance, the Ocean takes a different path than its intended direct competitor, although in the interior it is reminiscent of the Tesla. The biggest difference, however, is the price tag: Fisker is betting on a price that is several thousand euros below that of the Model Y. In the US, the Ocean comes from € 37,500, which is about € 2,500 cheaper than the Model Y.
