Honda expands E-Clutch to five popular models by 2026

Honda announces that the E-Clutch system will be available in 2026 on five new models: the XL750 Transalp, CB750 Hornet, NX500, CBR500R and CB500F Hornet. This means that the range of this innovative technology, which debuted in 2024 on the CB650R and CB650R CBR650R mid-range cars, is growing considerably.

If you ask us, it is a solution to a problem that does not exist, but it seems as if some manufacturers see the semi-automatic transmission as the new holy grail. And in a way we understand it, especially at Honda, which has had the DCT for almost 15 years and has launched a simpler variant of it on the market with the E-Clutch system.

The E-Clutch system works faster and smoother than a traditional quickshifter and, according to Honda, offers a sporty driving experience at a higher level. At the same time, it makes driving easier: when starting, stopping and changing gears, the rider does not have to use the clutch lever, but can simply operate the accelerator pedal. If you want, you can always use the clutch lever manually for extra control.

For the Transalp and CB750 Hornet, the E-Clutch now arrives on models with Throttle-by-Wire. This makes it possible to automatically adjust the throttle during downshifts, so that the engine speed perfectly matches the wheel speed for extra smooth transitions. With the Transalp, the system even works off-road: when the rear wheel is turning, the E-Clutch with Throttle-by-Wire can shift safely, thanks to monitoring the front and rear wheels.

Three popular 500cc models – the CB500 Hornet, NX500 and CB500R – will also get the E-Clutch option. This makes the sporty convenience of the system accessible to a wide audience, including A2 drivers. For the first time, young riders in Europe can benefit from the ease of use and performance of the Honda E-Clutch on A2-friendly models.
