Skoda will soon be launching its first fully EV-developed car for the iV family. In the run-up to the unveiling, the Czech brand says what the electric SUV will be called.
The name “Enyaq” appears on the tailgate of Skoda’s new electric car. There is a whole philosophy behind this name according to the brand. For example, the initial letter refers to the electric power train and the Q stands for the body shape. The names of all Skoda SUVs end with a Q, such as the Kodiaq, Kamiq and Karoq. Those names come from Northern Canada and Greenland from the Inuit, but the new electric SUV takes its name from Ireland. In Irish, “enya” stands for “source of life.” Skoda says that all electric models get an Irish reference in the name.
The Enyaq is the first Skoda model on the new MEB platform of the Volkswagen Group. Other cars, such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and the Seat el-Born, already use this platform. The Volkswagen and Seat also look very similar. A while ago, Skoda looked ahead to an electric car with the Vision iV. This is more of an SUV with a sporty drawn roofline, while the Enyaq promises to be more of a ‘regular SUV’. However, we do aim that the Enyaq receives many design influences from the Vision iV. The car probably also shows similarities with the upcoming SUV from Volkswagen’s ID family, which will probably be called ID.4. At the end of last year we already looked ahead to the production model of the Vision iV, which images can be found here.
After the Citigo iV, this Enyaq is the second electric Skoda. The brand is investing two billion euros in the iV line this year. Around 2025, the share of electrified cars accounts for a quarter of Skoda’s sales.
