New Siri Remote brings Find My to older Apple TV models

Works with older Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models
Anyone who has ever lost the Siri Remote between the sofa cushions, behind the TV furniture or in another room knows how frustrating that can be. Apple is now finally solving that problem properly: the new fourth-generation Siri Remote will receive support for Accurate Search in Find My and can also play a sound. This makes the remote control not only visible on a map, but also audible.

The good news is that you don’t necessarily have to purchase the new expensive Apple TV 4K for this. The updated Siri Remote is also available separately and works with older Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models. Apple is bringing a feature that users have been requesting for years to a broad group of Apple TV owners.

This is how Find My works on the new Siri Remote

The fourth generation Siri Remote looks largely the same as its predecessor, but now includes a built-in speaker. This allows you to play a sound via the Find My app. For example, if the remote control is between the cushions of the couch, you will quickly hear where it is located. You can also activate this with a voice command: “Hey Siri, find the remote.”

In addition, the new Siri supports Remote Accurate Search. In the Find My app, an arrow will appear pointing you in the direction of the remote control, including an indication of the distance. If the Siri Remote is further away or really lost, you can also find it on a map.

Not every iPhone supports Precise Search

Precise Search doesn’t work on every iPhone. Apple requires an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or an iPhone 17 or newer with ultra-wideband, excluding the iPhone 17e. The iPhone must also have the latest version of iOS.

Basic support for Find My has been around for some time: it is available from the second generation Siri Remote. Playing a sound, on the other hand, is only possible on the latest Siri Remote, because only that version has a speaker.

Also suitable for older Apple TV models

Apple makes the new Siri Remote available separately, which is especially nice for people with an Apple TV HD or an older Apple TV 4K. So you don’t have to replace your entire entertainment set to use the improved Find My functions. The new Siri Remote 4th generation works with an Apple TV HD and all 4K models.

Price and availability

The new Siri Remote (4th generation) costs €69. Preorders started on October 13, while delivery starts on November 13. Apple announced the remote at the same time as the new Apple TV 4K, which is available in the Netherlands from 349 euros.
