Headspace

Headspace is one of the best-known mindfulness apps for iPhone and iPad, designed to make meditation and mindfulness accessible to everyone. The app offers a simple, clear interface with short, guided sessions that you can use daily, for example in the morning for a calm start or in between for a mental break.

In the iOS and iPadOS versions you will find a basic course for beginners, hundreds of meditations on themes such as stress, focus, sleep and self-confidence, and short “SOS sessions” for moments when everything becomes too much. Headspace integrates well into your Apple life with Reminders, Sleep, and Focus features, allowing you to transition from a hectic day to a moment of calm with just a few taps.

Calm

Calm is available as a universal app for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV, bringing your mindfulness routine across your entire Apple ecosystem. On iPhone and iPad, a Calm account gives you access to an extensive library of meditations, Daily Calm sessions, breathing exercises and sleep stories, and your sessions are automatically saved in the Apple Health app so you can easily keep track of your meditation minutes.

Using the Calm app on Apple Watch, you can quickly start a short Daily Calm or breathing exercise, while your mindful minutes are also counted from your wrist. When viewed on Apple TV, you can select the Calm app from the “Health & Fitness” category to listen to or play background scenes, quiet sounds and a selection of meditations and Sleep Stories as a silent, calming background, without having to register.

Insight Timer

Insight Timer is an extensive mindfulness and meditation app that fully performs on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. On your iPhone and iPad, you can search a massive library of more than 270,000 free guided meditations and sleep tracks, filtering by duration, theme or teacher. The app also integrates with Apple Health, so your meditation sessions are recorded as “Mindful Minutes” and you can track your progress in one view.

Insight Timer remains just as useful on the Apple Watch: the Watch app offers a similar meditation timer that allows you to quietly meditate or do yoga exercises without having to take your phone out of your pocket. Here too, the same core functionality revolves around timer meditation and a short intro course, so you always have a short rest bubble with you, independent of your iPhone.

Other app suggestions

Naturally, the above three applications are only a small selection of the complete range within this category. If you have any other suggestions, please share them in the comments so you can introduce other users to new apps.
