The Porsche Panamera goes against it for the second lap. In appearance, the change is subtle, but under the renewed body is more going on.
According to many, the second generation of the Porsche Panamera is a lot easier to enjoy than its predecessor, but after four years, Porsche considers the time has come to send it back to the drawing board. They have not rigorously pulled the eraser over it, because the facelift is extremely subtle. At the front we see slightly differently arranged headlights and more prominent units in the modified front bumper. The back has been changed a bit more noticeably, that applies to both the Panamera and the Panamera Sport Turismo. Although the connecting strip between the two taillights has remained, it still gives a somewhat different look. This is due to the slightly more subtle and completely redesigned rear lights, which are also more gradual in the ‘strip’.
Turbo S.
Earlier this month, Porsche already chased the renewed Panamera over the Nürburgring-Nordschleife and then it became clear that the five-door is taking a nice step in terms of performance. With a time of 7: 29.81 driver Lars Kern went over the no less than 20.83 kilometer long circuit and then we already suspected that it was a new variant of the Panamera Turbo. That indeed appears to be the case. Porsche parks a variant above it; the Turbo S. The Turbo draws 550 hp and 770 Nm from the 4.0-liter biturbo V8, but the new Turbo S kicks it up to a whopping 630 hp and 820 Nm. The new top version of the Panamera is able to shoot from 0 to 100 km / h in Sport Plus mode in just 3.1 seconds. The party continues up to 315 km / h. Anyone who thinks all of this is a bit too much can of course also sign up for the GTS. It has become slightly more powerful and now draws 480 hp and 620 Nm from the V8.
4S E-Hybrid
So there is good news not only for the powerhouses, but also for those who want to hang the Panamera on the charging station. The Panamera also gets a hybrid variant; the 4S E-Hybrid. Which is of course a blow more powerful than the well-known 4 E-Hybrid (with a power of 462 hp). Thanks to its 2.9-liter biturbo V6 and electric motor, the 4S E-Hybrid produces a system power of 560 hp. The maximum torque is 750 Nm. Good for a sprint to 100 km / h that takes only 3.7 seconds and a top of 298 km / h. Of course, opportunities for improvement were also looked at with regard to the battery pack and that was found. The hybrid Panamera now has 17.9 kWh charging capacity and the 4S E-Hybrid can travel up to 54 kilometers fully electrically according to the WLTP cycle.
Sharper and smarter
To be able to keep everything in check, Porsche also examined the chassis of the Panamera. The suspension, air suspension and the optional Torque Vectoring (smart force distribution between wheels separately) are all a bit sharper, according to the Germans. The steering has also been overhauled and tires are added to the order list that have been specifically developed for the Panamera. To keep it a bit safe, things like Lane Assist with traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, night vision assistant, among other things, are now standard.
Porsche is kind enough to already share the first prizes of the renewed Panamera. You can order immediately, the first copies are expected to be welcomed to the dealers in October.
