In Wolfsburg, days will probably be dashed off the calendar, because Volkswagen is again looking ahead to the arrival of the ID.4. This time the chief designer of the brand provides comments and there is news regarding the range.
The Volkswagen ID.4 is, at least in appearance, one of the worst kept secrets of recent times. Not only could the car be seen completely uncamouflaged, but Volkswagen also shared many details of the newcomer itself. Today it pulls out three images showing the ID.4 semi-production ready. The side view, in particular, seems like a pretty accurate representation of the final ID.4. Well, those images aren’t new, but a subtle piece of information in the chief designer’s commentary is.
Klaus Zyciora makes himself heard and, in addition to an artistic description of the carriage as if it was ‘shaped by the wind’, he also presented some more pragmatically presented information. “The ID.4 has a drag coefficient of 0.28. This is largely due to the way the basic shape of the car curves around the passenger compartment and inwards towards the rear.” Naturally, the low Cw value should help to make the ID.4 more efficient with its electrical power. This gives the ID.4 a maximum WLTP range of ‘above 500 km’, they say. Previously, a maximum range of under 500 km was assumed, but the promise is now for more. We will know more in a few weeks.
