New entry-level vehicle for Mercedes-Benz GLA

Mercedes-Benz is expanding the GLA range at the bottom with a new entry-level model. The GLA 200 now has the less powerful and more cost-effective GLA 180 under it.

Until now, the absolute entry-level model of the Mercedes-Benz GLA was the GLA 200. This variant of the brand’s smallest crossover has a 163 hp and 250 Nm strong 1.3 four-cylinder under the hood. That petrol engine can no longer be called the basic engine. Mercedes-Benz puts the GLA 180 on the price list, a variant of the same 1.3, which is scaled back to 136 hp and 200 Nm.

Mercedes-Benz charges a minimum of € 47,193 for the GLA 180, which is always linked to a 7g DCT transmission. This makes it € 1,100 cheaper than the GLA 200. The GLA 180 is also available as a Business Solution and in that form has a price of € 47,595. The A-class is also available as A 160. That version has a 109 hp and 180 Nm strong variant of the well-known 1.3 as power plant. Given the higher weight of the GLA compared to that of the A-class, it is unlikely that this engine version will also come to the GLA.
