Ford Mondeo gets SYNC4 infotainment

The now aging Ford Mondeo will have access to the new SYNC4 infotainment system. The arrival of the operating system goes hand in hand with the mounting of a huge display.

The Ford Mondeo as it is in European showrooms is not identical to the versions that Ford sells in other parts of the world. The European Mondeo, for example, has a front that differs from the nose part of the Fusion equivalent, which was available in the United States until recently. Our Mondeo’s ass is also different from that of his American twin brother. In China, Ford still delivers the American Mondeo, so in fact the Fusion, and it is precisely in that Asian country that Ford is now implementing a striking model year update.

In appearance, the Chinese Mondeo remains unchanged and so the large middle class retains its headlights from which, unlike those of the European ones, a subtle bite has been taken. However, the Mondeo, which is only available as a four-door sedan in China, gets a completely new infotainment system. The operating system is the latest generation of SYNC called SYNC4. This software is characterized, among other things, by a structure partly made up of maps and can be linked to an extensive telephone application, among other things. Interesting, of course, although the new display is perhaps even more striking. Ford gives the Mondeo a 12.8-inch vertically oriented screen that fills the entire center console, with the exception of the ventilation grilles. This also means that the physical buttons with which, until recently, the climate control and things such as seat heating were operated, had to be cleared.

Ford Mondeo SYNC4 China

It is striking that Ford gives the Mondeo such a freshening up, the model has been running internationally since 2012, although it only appeared in Europe in 2014. We are still awaiting a response from Ford Netherlands to our question to what extent the Chinese Mondeo update means something for the European model. However, it is likely that the adjustment is reserved for the Chinese market. At the beginning of this year, the first rumors surfaced about the arrival of a successor to the current Mondeo, which may already be next year.
