Held sleeping driver in self-driving Tesla

A Canadian has been convicted by police in the Canadian province of Alberta for found sleeping behind the wheel of a Tesla with the driver assistance system turned on.

Shortly before, the officers caught sight of the car because they had measured speeds of up to 150 kilometers per hour. Officers saw that both the driver and passenger seats were fully folded back. “The second occupant also seemed to be sleeping”, the police said The Guardian know. As officers approached the car and gave light signals, the Tesla seemed to accelerate. Many Canadian highways have a speed limit of 110 kilometers per hour.

In the end, officers managed to pull the car over. The driver turned out to be a 20-year-old man from the Canadian province of British Columbia. He was fined for speeding and was banned from driving for a day. He also has to answer in court in December for his dangerous driving behavior.

Such incidents are not an unknown phenomenon in Canada. In January, a man was put aside in Ontario for letting go of the steering wheel at speeds of 135 kilometers per hour to floss his teeth. A few months earlier, a Tesla without a driver was wrong-way driving, writes The Guardian.
