Isuzu has introduced the completely new second generation of the MU-X to the world. The pick-up, which is closely related to the D-Max, gets its own look for the first time.
Isuzu has pulled the curtain on the completely new MU-X in Thailand. Recently, Techzle was able to exclusively release the patent plates of that new SUV, but now the actual car can also be admired in its entirety. The new MU-X shares its technology, just like its predecessor, presented in 2013, with the more famous D-Max, a pick-up that you sometimes see on the road in the Netherlands. The D-Max was renewed to the tiniest nut last year and now it is the MU-X that is undergoing a generation change.
The previous MU-X was clearly the SUV version of the then current D-Max. As a result, the MU-X actually seemed to be nothing more than a D-Max with a dense structure. The new MU-X also shares its technology with the D-Max, but the SUV gets its own design for the first time in its history. Just like the D-Max, the new MU-X also stands on the Isuzu Dynamic Drive base that Mazda has borrowed for the BT-50 similar to the D-Max. Do not be surprised if Mazda eventually comes with its own version of the MU-X. Design-technical nods to Mazda, Isuzu seems to have already applied to the front of the MU-X. The interior of the MU-X differs only in details from that of its pick-up brother. The center console, the instruments and the ventilation grilles are identical, although Isuzu covers the dashboard of the MU-X with a smoother upper deck.
The MU-X is 4.85 meters long, 1.87 meters wide and 1.88 meters high. That makes the SUV, which has a wheelbase of 2.89 meters, perfectly comparable with models not available here such as the Toyota SW4 / Fortuner and Pajero Sport from Mitsubishi, respectively SUV versions of the Toyota Hilux and Mitsubishi L200. The engine list of the MU-X, like that of the D-Max, includes a 1.9 diesel that delivers 150 hp and 350 Nm. Those who want more power can opt for a 190 hp and 450 Nm strong 3.0 diesel. The MU-X is basically rear-wheel drive, although four-wheel drive versions will also be available.
The new Isuzu MU-X is not coming to the Netherlands.
