Alfa Romeo will remain associated with Sauber’s renamed Formula 1 team for longer. Both parties make this known.
Alfa Romeo and Sauber join forces for another year together in Formula 1. In 2018, the partnership was formed and Sauber’s former F1 team was renamed Alfa Romeo Sauber. Last year that went one step further and the team continued under the name Alfa Romeo Racing. It has now been announced that this will also be the case next year and that ‘even more years together’ are being looked forward to.
Although it is not officially a factory team, but it is mainly about the naming of the former Sauber F1, there is more to it. Not only does the Swiss Sauber receive financial and technical support from Alfa Romeo, Sauber in turn was involved in the development of the Alfa Romeo Guilia GTA and GTAm. In addition, the partnership is of course reflected in the livery of the F1 cars and the famous logo can be seen on both the car and the team’s clothing.
Alfa Romeo Racing in Formula 1 is not doing great this year, but the team is hopeful for the future. Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur: “Both parties intend to reap the long-term benefits of this partnership. We have built a solid foundation for this in the past three seasons and we want to benefit from it in 2021 and beyond.”
Fiat Chrysler CEO Mike Manley is pleased with Sauber’s contribution to strengthening the brand: “Racing and performance are at the heart of Alfa Romeo’s DNA. The brand was practically born on a racetrack and today we continue to compete at the most technologically advanced level of motorsport. The partnership with Sauber Group also allows our customers to benefit from exclusive racing know-how, as is the case with the Giulia GTA and GTAm, which contain the technical input of Sauber Engineering, especially with regard to advanced aerodynamics. “
