Lower speed in Frankfurt instead of environmental zones

In the center of Frankfurt, the speed limit is set to 40 km / h to reduce nitrogen emissions. This is to prevent things from having to be locked for cars with an internal combustion engine.

In Frankfurt am Main, the speed limit in the city center will be reduced to 40 km / h from the new year, reports Automobilwoche. This has nothing to do with road safety, but with nitrogen dioxide emissions. It is lower at lower speeds. Last December, the court in Kassel decided that nitrogen emissions in the city center must be further reduced and that environmental zones or even general bans for fuel vehicles must be established for this purpose. To prevent this, the maximum speed is now reduced.

The idea is that this will reduce the average nitrogen dioxide emissions sufficiently to meet the requirements. At the same time, the city center remains sufficiently accessible for everyone. Apparently this is seen as a good alternative, as it has already been approved by the federal state in which Frankfurt is located. As of the new year, it is therefore not allowed to drive faster than 40 km / h in a certain zone in the city. That will take some getting used to in some places, but at least everyone can still enter the city by car.
