Naran Automotive is a new player in the hypercar world. The start-up announced mid-year that it was developing a new hypercar. That eventually became the Naran. A ‘hyper-coupé’, as the company calls it. In any case, the performance is very promising.
In terms of creativity, the naming of the Naran Automotive Naran is somewhat reminiscent of the Ferrari LaFerrari. Compared to the previous plans, Naran Automotive has changed course considerably. Originally, the brand new company planned to build a hypercar with a mid-engine. That plan apparently ended up in the paper shredder, because the Naran’s 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8 has been placed behind the front axle and the coupé has become a ‘2 + 2’. Jowyn Wong, the designer of the Apollo IE and De Tomaso P72, is responsible for the lines. The Naran clearly has a sporty character and, with its heavy spoiler work, is somewhat reminiscent of a GT3 racer. Seen from the side, it almost looks like a kind of cross between the Lexus LC and the BMW 8-series. The back, especially when it comes to the light clusters, is a bit like the McLaren GT.
It is no coincidence that the Naran resembles a GT3 racer. Naran Automotive promises an ‘authentic GT3 experience for the public road and the circuit’. The aforementioned V8 produces an output of 1,048 hp and an equally impressive torque of 1,036 Nm. This power unleashes the power source on all four wheels, resulting in a promised 0-97 km / h acceleration in 2.3 seconds. The top speed is said to be ‘more than 368 km / h’. For those who dare, Naran reports that you can also direct all power to the rear wheels if desired. Four-way adjustable Öhlins dampers provide the damping, the Naran also gets carbon-ceramic brakes and hydraulic power steering. To keep all that power on the road, Naran Automotive promises a downforce of 1,377 kg thanks to specially developed aerodynamics.
Not an empty promise?
The figures reported by Naran Automotive are certainly not tender. The start-up says it is working with the German Racing Dynamics for the bike and that Daniel Mense, who also worked on the NIO EP9, is overseeing the project. Kate Montgomery, who previously worked as an interior designer at Aston Martin, must provide a luxurious interior decoration. There is no insight into that yet, because Naran Automotive has only released photos of the exterior. The Naran is scheduled to be released in early 2021. There will be only 49 copies, each of which can be put together by the owner according to your own taste. If you have a better idea for the name of the car, Naran even gives you the option to choose your own name. A price is not yet known, but an amount of seven figures does not seem inconceivable. Whether Naran Automotive can deliver on the ambitious figures remains to be seen.
