Five savings diesels for less than € 5,000

Diesel is increasingly falling out of favor. Not so long ago, however, fuel-efficient diesel generators were still sold like hot cakes, also stimulated by favorable addition rules for the business driver. Are you still looking for a relatively cheap savings diesel? These are five options from Techzle’s used car range.

From 1 July 2012, the tax authorities applied a differentiation in the addition percentages for the company car. The most favorable addition percentage was then 14 percent. For that, the car in question had to be below a certain CO2 emission. For diesels, this limit was 92 grams, for gasolines 102 grams. The percentage was even 0 percent for zero-emission cars. Over the years, the thumbscrews were tightened: in 2013, the maximum emissions for gasolines and diesels, for example, could only be 88 and 95 grams respectively to qualify for the 14 percent addition. Ultimately, the system was overhauled so often in subsequent years that it was difficult to keep up with. At the moment, cars with a fuel engine are no longer eligible for an additional tax benefit. In the years after 2012, however, the addition regime was an incentive for many business drivers to opt for an economical fuel-saving diesel. We have listed a number of them:

1. Volkswagen Polo 1.2 TDI BlueMotion – € 4,499

spare diesels

If you say savings diesel, you say Polo BlueMotion. Because the economical self-igniter on paper only emits 89 grams of CO2 per km, in 2012 it was eligible for the then favorable additional tax category of 14 percent. That certainly contributed to the fact that it appeared in large numbers on our road network. The 75 hp 1.2 TDI is certainly not known as a stripe tractor. If you give him the tracks, the needle of the speedometer will indicate 100 km / h in 13.9 seconds. The top speed is 173 km / h. On the other hand, the practical consumption according to the Techzle Consumption Monitor is an average of 4.58 liters per 100 km. With the necessary patience you could perhaps come closer to the manufacturer’s specification of only 3.4 liters per 100 kilometers. This gray copy already has some experience with over 269,000 kilometers, but at first sight it still looks neat. It includes air conditioning and cruise control; very pleasant for the frequent rider.

2. Alfa Romeo Mito 1.3 JTDm Eco Distinctive – € 4,445

Savings machines

Anyone who says you have to drive an inconspicuous gray mouse when you’re looking for a savings diesel is wrong. The Alfa Romeo Mito was also there in 2012 as an addition blast: the 1.3 JTDm. This 86 hp and 200 Nm strong power source was also available in the Fiat Punto. The red copy in question has more than 158,000 kilometers of experience, which is not that bad for an 8-year-old diesel. Comfort-enhancing items such as separate automatic climate control and cruise control are available on board. The Mito is not much faster than the Polo. It clears 0-100 km / h in 13 seconds and with a top speed of 172 km / h, it is even slightly out of breath than the Polo. With the above copy you drive at least a lot more colorful. The stated fuel consumption of the Mito is 3.5 liters per 100 kilometers, but the Techzle Consumption Monitor shows that Alfa drivers often have a somewhat heavier right foot: an average of 4.98 liters per 100 km rolls out there.

3. Renault Clio 1.5 DCI Eco2 Expression – € 4,750

Savings machines

The Renault Clio Estate was also a top seller in the Netherlands. It is also the last Clio that Renault delivered as a more spacious variant, because the body style did not return in the most recent Clio. This white copy is from 2014 and has more than 195,000 kilometers on the clock. Thanks to its color and steel wheels with hubcaps, it looks anything but exciting, but it is functional. Incidentally, the Clio, with its 90 hp, is faster than the Mito and the Polo: the sprint to 100 km / h is over in 12 seconds and only at 180 km / h does it stop. The consumption of the 1.5-liter four-cylinder is, according to the factory, 3.6 liters per 100 kilometers. With an average of 4.7 liters per 100 km in practice, it even scores better than the Mito according to the consumption monitor. Cruise control and air conditioning are also present here, the Clio adds an integrated navigation system and parking sensors. An excellent choice for the frequent driver looking for an affordable yet spacious car.

4. Peugeot 208 e-HDI Active – € 4,450

spare diesels

We stay in French spheres with this Peugeot 208 1.6 e-HDI Active. The true addition of the brand was of course the 308 SW, but it cannot be found within the budget. In the 208 you obviously have a little less space, but with 93 hp and 230 Nm of torque from the 1.6-liter four-cylinder diesel, it moves forward fine: 0-100 km / h clears the Peugeot in 10.9 seconds and it continues steam up to a top speed of 185 km / h. The specified consumption figure is 3.4 liters per 100 kilometers the same as that of the Polo. In practice, according to the consumption monitor, this amounts to an average of 4.72 liters per 100 kilometers, although there is also one owner who managed to bring that number down to 2.95 liters. The copy in question still looks pretty fresh from the outside, but the interior seems to have been put through the mangle. The steering wheel and the footwell have not survived the more than 225,000 kilometers that this 208 has traveled. Apart from that, the interior still makes a relatively modern impression, but you have to love the higher placed clocks.

5. Volvo C30 1.6D DrivE – € 4,450

Savings machines

The above occasions are all B-segmenters, so in that sense the Volvo C30 is a little out of place. Even when it comes to the addition benefit, which did not apply to this C30. However, this copy does fit the budget and ties in with the savings diesel theme. With the 1.6D DrivE, Volvo wanted to bring an extra-efficient C30 to the market. The car in question only has logos on the side panels that indicate that this is the economical version, on the back it is devoid of any indications. That is not necessary, because at the rear, the insert at the bottom of the rear bumper betrays the true character of this C30. The specified consumption is 4.4 liters per 100 kilometers, slightly higher than that of the above occasions. However, with an average of 5.21 liters per 100 km, the practical consumption in the consumption monitor deviates less from the manufacturer’s specifications than is the case for the cars above. The C30 is not really practical, for that you will really have to seek refuge with an S40 or V50. The C30 is a unique appearance and has comfortable seats on board. Ideal for the frequent rider.
