The new DS 4 will be unveiled in early 2021, but the French have already revealed some details. The compact middle class follows the example of its bigger brothers and other stable mates.
At the beginning of 2021, DS will unveil the new DS 4. In February, to be precise. In a preview, the French have already revealed some details against Techzle, among others. The next DS 4 is on a renewed variant of Groupe PSA’s EMP2 base, which means it comes with powertrains that we already know from other models of the French concern. The most important is definitely the plug-in hybrid powertrain. In that case, the DS 4 has a 1.6 four-cylinder with an output of 180 hp, which, together with a 110 hp electric motor, mobilizes a system power of 225 hp. The fully electric range of the plug-in should, according to DS, be slightly above 50 kilometers. Recharging can be done via a 32 ampere wallbox, which should be able to fully charge the car in over 1.5 hours.
Those who prefer to stick to purely a fuel engine can sign up for petrol or diesel power sources with an output of at least 130 hp. The entry-level model thus gets the 1.2 PureTech with 130 hp in the nose. Petrol versions are still available with manual and eight-speed automatic transmission, diesel engines have an automatic gearbox as standard. A fully electric version is not yet available. After all, the new PSA eVMP platform is still under development for this. On that basis, from about 2023 onwards, middle class cars that are fully electric should be introduced.
Appearance
As mentioned, we still have to wait for the full reveal, but we have already got some glimpses of the appearance. Anyone who brings to mind the DS 7 and suggests it a step smaller, has about the DS 4 in front of him. Illustrations that appeared in Techzle 13 of this year already give a good picture. A large grille with a thick chrome frame, flanked by sharply shaped headlights, give the DS 4 the now familiar family look. The DS 4 gets optional matrix LED lighting and rotating headlights are also available. Those who prefer to see the DS 4 dressed up in a more adventurous way will not miss out. Inquiry from Techzle shows that there are ‘different variants’, so you can bet that a DS 4 Crossback will also be present.

Infotainment
In the interior of the DS 4 we find the latest gadgets. This means, among other things, the arrival of the infotainment system, which we recently tried out in the DS 9. You can operate functions via speech, but also via gestures. Do you prefer physical contact with the car? Then you can of course use the touchscreen and the touch-sensitive buttons. In addition to more functionalities on the infotainment system, it will eventually also be possible to work with Android Auto. Apple CarPlay is also likely to follow.
A special novelty is the head-up display. According to the French, this creates the illusion that data is projected onto the road in front of you. Kind of like a light version of Augmented Reality, in a way. Speed, distance to the vehicle in front and navigation directions, among other things, are optically displayed for you on the road. According to DS, this should of course contribute to a safer journey. Level 2 autonomous assistance systems also help you with this.
It will all become clear in roughly two months, when DS will unveil the DS 4. In the second half of 2021, the car built in Rüsselsheim should be in our showroom.
