Skoda will launch a successor to the Citigo e-iV around 2025, CEO Thomas Schäfer confirms to the English Auto Express. Skoda’s new A-segmenter will be on the same platform as the ID1, the electric compact Volkswagen to be launched in 2023. Beyond that, Skoda has many more plans in the EV field.
The Volkswagen Group is currently engaged in a true electric offensive. The Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer is, among other things, developing the smaller MEB-Entry platform, on which the ID1 will be installed. Skoda can then use that platform for the successor to the Citigo. According to Schäfer, Skoda certainly does not miss that opportunity. “We will certainly follow suit. If the platform is there, we can certainly put some smarts on it. It would certainly look completely different,” said the CEO. Nothing is yet known about a possible name for this model, as well as the specifications. Schäfer hints that the little one is likely to arrive around 2025. Given that Volkswagen has the ID1 / ID2 planned for 2023, that seems a logical year.
The ID1 is said to have the size of the Volkswagen Polo and is price-wise close to € 20,000. Given the current ranking within the Volkswagen Group, it is obvious that the Skoda version is just below that in terms of price. First, however, Skoda focuses on other EVs. Next year, the Enyaq ‘Coupé’ will make its appearance, followed by a smaller hatchback. After that, Skoda is only ready for a new EV in the Citigo segment, according to Schäfer. There is also an electric sedan in the pipeline that will be about the size of the Octavia. The CEO does not say anything about this yet, but does say that the model name Octavia is “very important” for Skoda. So do not be surprised if that EV is linked to the Octavia family in terms of naming. How the plans of Skoda finally take shape, remains to be seen.
