New Year’s resolutions can help break old habits or achieve new goals. The turn of the year motivates many people to set goals.

If you set yourself a goal at the turn of the year, you have a specific deadline on which to start implementing it: January 1st of the new year. A fixed date can help not to delay the goal any further, but to start implementing it.

Of course, you can also set goals for February 1st, June 1st or any other date. However, New Years is a deadline that you will surely not forget.

A goal achieved is always a small reason to celebrate. The more clearly you formulate your goal for the new year, the better you can understand when you have achieved it.

  • It’s best to write down your goal.
  • It can be helpful to break the goal down into small sub-goals. So you can understand how you are getting closer to your goal step by step.
  • Every partial goal achieved is also a reason to be proud. It shows you that you can do it. Reward yourself for achieving partial goals: A good meal, a Face mask or a long one walk are easy ways to reward yourself.

Some friends of yours may also set goals for the New Year. If you set a common goal together, you can motivate each other and give tips. This makes it easier for you to reach your goal and it is more fun.

You can also make a little competition out of it:

  • Who produces less rubbish per week?
  • Who cycles more kilometers per month?
  • You can also support each other with different goals: Ask each other at a regular, firmly agreed time about the status of the goal. This “control” by another person can be an incentive to achieve the goal.

Tips for your New Year’s resolutions

Make your goal as specific as possible.

  1. Make your goal positive: It is easier to work towards a specific goal than to abandon a habit without replacing it. Make a note of: “I will cycle to work every day” instead of “I will no longer drive to work.”
  2. Make your goal as specific as possible: This is how you make it clear to yourself what exactly you want to achieve. The goal becomes more tangible and you get closer to implementation. That means, for example: “I only get coffee and chocolate fair trade buy “instead of” I buy more fair trade products “
  3. Set realistic goals: A small goal achieved can motivate you to take another step. A goal that is too big and cannot be achieved is more likely to frustrate you. You can best judge for yourself whether a goal is realistic for you. So write: “One day a week I will myself eat vegan“Instead of” I’m going vegan straight away. “
  4. Be proud of a goal achieved!
