Kia is making a turnaround. The brand recently presented a completely new logo and a new brand slogan. Today, the plan highlights its Plan S strategy, with a strong focus on electric cars and mobility solutions.
Kia Motors is now simply called ‘Kia’, but that is not the most important element of Kia’s Plan-S strategy. The new brand slogan ‘Movement that inspires’ goes hand in hand with a great focus on electric transport and new mobility. Kia says it is transforming from simply a car manufacturer to a ‘provider of sustainable mobility solutions’. Kia says by expanding its activities and with new electric cars, it is responding to the changing expectations of consumers.
That may not sound very clear, but fortunately there are concrete examples. To start with the electrical newcomers, there must be seven by 2027. These seven new EVs all use the already announced E-GMP platform, a modular base for electric cars that will also be used by Hyundai. Those new models will not only be crossovers or hatchbacks, Kia is also talking about the arrival of electric SUVs and MPVs. Kia also says it is developing a series of EVs specifically for the business market. These are not cars that are specifically intended for the lease driver, but smart modular vehicles with a modular body. Aim for small vans, for example last mile delivery. By 2025, Kia aims to have a 6.6 percent share of the international EV market. A year later, the brand’s total EV production should be 500,000 units.
Kia promises to present its first all-new electric model on an E-GMP basis in the first quarter of this year. It will be a crossover with a range of more than 500 kilometers. This will be the first Kia to feature the brand’s new logo. Techzle aims to make this the Futuron Concept-inspired EV that we have already shown a series of spy photos of.
It does not stop there, Kia will soon also pay attention to special car sharing programs.
Kia says it wants to produce its products in a more sustainable way, including the use of more recyclable materials. Other news comes in the form of a greater focus on the development of mobility services that make use of electric and autonomous city cars. The brand is setting up new services for this, including the new WiBLE. This is a partnership with the Spanish Repsol, which, among other things, will use 500 Niro’s Plug-in Hybrid in Madrid as a shared car.
