Ford gets a new chief designer. After six years, Moray Callum hands over to Anthony Lo. He expects to be given a pretty tough job.
Callum has been chief designer at Ford since 2014, but he had been involved with the automaker for some time before that. Most recently he was responsible for the design of the Bronco, Mustang Mach-E and the new F-150. Previously, he oversaw the design process for the Ford GT and Mustang, but also left his mark at Mazda thanks to the MX-5 NC and the CX-7. His successor, Anthony Lo, has also had a long career, the last ten years with Renault as head of exterior design. He designed concept cars such as the TreZor, Twin’Run and Dezir, but also designed the second generations of the Captur and Dacia Duster. Lo started his career at Lotus once, where he gave the acclaimed Carlton the Opel Omega distinctive design elements.
Lo, who may start his new position from April 1, says he has a considerable job at Ford. “With the speed of technological development, I think cars will change more in the next decade than in the last century,” said the designer. He goes on to say that models like the Sierra RS Cosworth left a lasting impression on him in the past. It remains to be seen whether he will be inspired by that past in the future. His previous employer recently took that path.
