In addition to updates, Mercedes-Benz will also offer individual options over-the-air via the Mercedes Me Store. This means that some new functions are also available for cars where they were not yet available.
Various services and functions are available through the Mercedes Me Store. For example, functionalities such as smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay / Android Auto and DAB + can be installed afterwards for a fee. The Mercedes Me Store is not new in itself, but can now also be installed over-the-air on older models with MBUX that did not yet have this feature. The updates are performed in the background after a notification in the screen. With the new S-class goes Das Haus one step further, as the flagship’s electronic architecture allows more than 50 control units in the car to be remotely updated without a visit to the garage. In time, the other models are also expected to benefit from this.
Mercedes-Benz is certainly not the first car manufacturer to work in this way. Audi also offers ‘over-the-air’ options with Functions on Demand. Items such as a high beam assistant and MMI Navigation Plus can be ordered remotely. Another manufacturer working in this way is Tesla, which has been updating its cars remotely and continuously providing new functions since the introduction of the Model S.
