The small UK-based Watt Electric Vehicle Company is introducing a modular platform developed specifically for the brand’s future electric models. The company’s firstborn will be an electric coupĂ© that bears many similarities with the Porsche 356A that appeared on the road in 1955.
Watt Electric Vehicle Company is, as the company name suggests, a manufacturer of electric cars. At least, that’s what the company hopes to become. The brand introduces Spaces, a low-cost, lightweight modular EV platform that can serve as the basis for a wide range of cars, from rear-wheel drive roadsters to commercial vehicles. Within a few weeks, Watt Electric Vehicle Company will present its first production model, an electric coupĂ© with a classic-looking body of which the first photos are available.
Porsche 356A
Watt Electric Vehicle Company describes its electric ‘premium model’ as a car inspired by a ‘classic sports car from the 1950s’. There is not a word of French with that. The design of the car in the photos is clearly based on that of the Porsche 356A that appeared on the scene in 1955. Extensive technical specifications on Watt Electric Vehicle Company’s first production car are not yet available. We do know that the coupĂ© has a weight distribution of 50:50 and weighs less than 1,000 kilos. The electric motor, like the petrol engine of the original, is located in the rear. The battery pack has a capacity of 40 kWh, which, according to Watt Electric Vehicle Company, has a WLTP range of 370 kilometers.

According to its creators, the Spaces-baptized platform that hides under the classic-looking carriage should not only provide rear-wheel-drive models, but also front- and all-wheel-drive EVs. The platform is completely made of aluminum and, according to Watt Electric Vehicle Company, meets the ISO regulations that the EU sets for cars that are built on a small scale. Watt Electric Company will not only use the Spaces platform itself. The modular basis must also be used by other small niche manufacturers. The company therefore calls on small car manufacturers to pick up the phone to make an appointment.
