Morgan takes the Plus 8 off the stable again. Actually, the model already went out of production in 2018, but now Morgan sees a chance to build another nine copies of the model in the form of an extra brutal Plus 8 GTR.
According to Morgan, the production of the Plus 8 GTR is only possible because a number of unused aluminum chassis of the Plus 8 recently surfaced. The English car brand had initially sold it to an unnamed party. These were all built before 2018, the year the Plus 8 went out of production. The Plus 8 GTR is thus a final farewell to the iconic model and is mainly focused on sportiness. On the sketches, the Plus 8 GTR has a splitter as an extra compared to the Plus 8 and the side skirts are also lower than before. In addition, there is an extra cooling slot behind the front wheels. At the rear, the toned Plus 8 has a diffuser with two tailpipes protruding. The wire wheels had to make way for five-spoke models with a central wheel nut. Also nice: two extra lamps are screwed on the front bumper.
Where the Plus 8 is normally an open car with a soft top, Morgan has boarded the Plus 8 GTR with a hard top. The doors have also become higher and have fixed windows. Under the hood lies the same N62 4.8-liter V8 from BMW that Morgan used for the Plus 8 since 2004. That block originally delivered 362 horsepower, but Morgan does not yet release how much power the GTR gets. It is quite possible that the sportsman will get a little more horses under his long, ribbed hood. Customers also have the choice of a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic from ZF.
Morgan will not build more than nine copies of the Plus 8 GTR. The lucky customers get to compose their car as they wish, together with the Morgan designers. The price is unknown, but since this is an extremely rare series, it will not be tender anyway. Production will start this summer, Morgan will also show the real car by then. For now we have to make do with these sketches.
