New Skoda Fabia already in detail

Skoda is about to introduce a new Fabia. Before that happens, the Czechs first serve us a good dose of information about the new Skoda Fabia.

The fourth generation Skoda Fabia is finally introduced to the MQB A0 platform on which the current generations of concern brothers and sisters Polo, Ibiza and Audi A1 have been driving around for several years. The new Skoda Fabia will be 4.11 meters long, 1.78 meters wide and 1.46 meters high. This makes the new Skoda Fabia 12 centimeters longer, 5 centimeters wider and 1 centimeter higher than the outgoing model. The wheelbase of the new Fabia is 2.56 meters, which makes the distance between the front and rear axle 9 centimeters longer than that of the current third generation Fabia.

Just like the Octavia is bigger and more spacious than the Golf, the new Fabia is also bigger than the group brother Volkswagen Polo, although the difference is smaller. The wheelbase of the new Fabia is one centimeter longer than that of the Polo, a car that with its length of 4.06 meters is also about 5 centimeters shorter. The luggage compartment of the Fabia Hatchback grows by 50 liters to 380 liters and here too the Volkswagen Polo gets the worst, after all, it can carry a maximum of 351 liters.

The well-known basis of the new Skoda Fabia also brings with it familiar engines. The Fabia will be available with 95 and 110 hp 1.0 TSIs. There will be a 95 hp version with a manual five-speed gearbox and a 110 hp version that is available with a manual six-speed gearbox as well as with a DSG7 automatic transmission. At the bottom of the ladder hangs a 65 hp 1.0 MPI, a turbo-free petrol engine for which Skoda only provides the manual gearbox. A small step above it is an 80 hp MPI. At the top of the engine list is a 150 hp 1.5 TSI with automatic transmission. That 1.5 TSI has, among other things, active cylinder deactivation. Skoda is still tight-lipped about the arrival of an RS version. For the time being, the Fabia RS with 180 hp 1.4 TSI, which appeared with the facelift of the second generation Fabia, appears to be the last compact Skoda with the famous two-letter combination.

Skoda Fabia

Skoda has not yet released the appearance of the new Fabia, but thanks to this set of new photos and previous spy photos, we can already say something about the appearance. Skoda sticks to the characteristic sharp-lined C-pillar. The ascending window line also returns on this new Skoda Fabia, although its intensity has been reduced slightly. The outgoing Fabia already got a muzzle during its facelift, with the headlights being placed quite high next to the grille. That design is extended to this new Skoda Fabia and the result is a front end that probably makes the hatchback a perfect match for the rest of the Skoda family. The rear lights, from now on models with LED technology, now also run through the tailgate. With this, Skoda breaks with the current Fabia, but lets him keep it neatly in line with the Kamiq and the Scala. The Cd value of the new Fabia is at 0.28 lower than that of the outgoing model (0.32). The new Skoda Fabia will have, among other things, active cooling openings in the front bumper that, according to Skoda, reduce consumption by up to 0.2 l / 100 km.

The new Fabia is also making progress in the field of safety. The Skoda Fabia will be available for the first time with Travel Assist, Park Assist and Maneuver Assist. Also available: adaptive cruise control, Lane Assist and an improved version of Side Assist. Also new on the Fabia: traffic sign recognition. The new Skoda Fabia is further packed with new smarts that Skoda hangs under its Simply Clever umbrella. The new Skoda Fabia has front seats with flat backrests, a USB-C connection in the interior mirror, a reading light in the back that you can operate from the front seats, a removable cup holder and various smart storage compartments. The new Skoda Fabia will be at dealers later this year.

Good news for fans of compact station wagons: the arrival of a new Fabia Combi has recently been confirmed. The new Skoda Fabia Combi will have to wait a while, according to Skoda CEO Thomas Schäfer, it will only be on the roll before 2023. The new Fabia Combi promises to be a real space giant. The current Combi with its 530 liter luggage compartment is already more spacious than the Kamiq (400 liters) and the new Fabia Combi is expected to add to that. Until there is, the current Fabia Combi will remain in some markets.
