Due to the corona crisis, you probably use your computer or laptop more often than ever. This increases the chance that you will accidentally taste your coffee after a hilarious video on the internet or get pasta sauce splashes on your screen if you have to work late again. In addition, your computer screen attracts the necessary dust and bacteria, so that, especially in the light of the current pandemic, it does not hurt to clean your screen once in a while. This way you can clean your screen!
The older, traditional CRT screens (with a slightly convex front) are easier to clean thanks to the extra protective layer, for example with light cleaning agents. But this is not recommended for the newer LCD screens.
Glass or window cleaners are therefore out of the question if you want to clean your laptop or computer screen. The ammonia in such agents can discolour your screen.
Even if your screen has a special coating, such as the screen on some MacBooks, that protects against fingerprints and smudges, it is not recommended to use alcohol-based cleaners. This directly affects the coating.

Isopropanol
However, with most screens you can get away with 99% isopropanol if you want to remove dirt and grease deposits on your screen. If you are not comfortable with this, you can also buy isopropanol with a lower percentage, for example 70%. You can also dilute isopropanol yourself with water, which can be more effective because the water ensures that the agent penetrates the cell walls of bacteria better. The agent also evaporates less quickly, so that it comes into contact with bacteria for longer. Make sure to turn off your screen before you start using the drug.
Do not spray the product directly on your screen, but apply a little on a microfiber cloth. The cloth should certainly not be soaked. Then you can move the cloth from left to right across the screen in one movement.
Duster
With isopropanol you get bacteria off your screen, but it does not prevent some dust from remaining on your monitor. That is why it is good to go over your screen with a dry microfibre cloth beforehand. Even after cleaning with isopropanol, it is wise to use the anti-static cloth again to prevent stains from drying water and isopropanol.
Finally, make sure everything is dry before turning on the monitor to prevent damage.
