Bugatti Divo ‘Lady Bug’: painstaking work

Bugatti has transformed a Divo into a kind of demonic ladybug and therefore calls it ‘Lady Bug’. The difference with a regular Divo is in the details. A true painstaking work.

The Bugatti Divo Lady Bug is completely hand-painted with a very special layer of paint. On it, black or red contrasting ‘diamonds’ in many different sizes adorn. There are 1,600 in total. Before that, the 1,500 hp Divo did not just pass a car wrapper, because Bugatti applied the diamond-shaped accents by hand.

According to Bugatti, it was a very time consuming process to get it as perfect as possible. The design was first drawn on the computer, but in practice the diamonds turned out to be slightly different once they had to follow the shapes of the Divo. One millimeter deviation on one of the diamonds could already disturb the balance of the entire design, according to the French brand. That is why they were refined several times and eventually brought into the correct position row by row by hand. Subsequently, a red or black lacquer layer was applied over these patches on the black or red background, respectively. Then the patches were removed one by one by hand with the utmost care and voilà.
