The Ford Mustang – the real one, not the Mach-E – is only available in Europe with the thick 5.0 V8. The four-cylinder Mustang Ecoboost is therefore discontinued.
You would think that the four-cylinder turbo Mustang is perfect for the European market, but it has already turned out that the practice is different. The Mustang is particularly popular in Germany. ‘If you do it, then do it right’ is apparently invariably the motto of European Mustang buyers, because the majority opt for the fast GT.
That is why Ford reportedly chooses precisely because of a lack of demand to delete the Ecoboost version, which is still available in the US. The rental companies will be happy with it.
In the Netherlands, this means that the Mustang is a lot more expensive than before. After last year’s WLTP price reduction, the basic price was suddenly € 61,175 (Ecoboost), now it is € 98,635. For that money, there is a Fastback GT 5.0 V8 with 449 hp and an automatic ten-speed gearbox. A manual gearbox is also possible, but it breaks through the magical limit of one ton due to its extra CO2 emissions. However, it is yours for € 100,930. A convertible always costs more than a ton and costs € 106,085 with automatic transmission and € 107,975 with manual transmission.
Then there is the Mach-1, which is even more powerful with 460 hp and also goes through life more heavily decked out. A Mach-1 is always a coupé and costs € 113,615 or € 115,470 depending on the transmission chosen.
Belgium
Incidentally, the flag is very different in Belgium. A Mustang GT is yours there for € 48,650, or less than half of what it costs in the Netherlands. Moreover, you get the manual gearbox coveted by enthusiasts as standard. If one car is a victim of the Dutch bpm policy, it is this one, although it must be said that the Belgian Road Tax for a 5.0 V8 will not be mild.
Of course there is also a way to get in a car with a Mustang badge cheaper in the Netherlands. Then you have to settle for the electric Ford Mustang Mach-E, which of course is not taken for granted by fans of the real Mustang.
