In the first two months of this year, the three best-selling electric cars in Western Europe were close to each other. This is evident from new figures from Schmidt Automotive Research.
In 2020, the Renault Zoe was the best-selling electric car in our part of the continent. The French EV continues to sell well and held the lead in the first two months of this year. However, it is now becoming quite crowded in the top 3. Matthias Schmidt calculated that a total of 6,858 Renaults Zoe were sold in Western Europe in January and February, followed by 6,766 Tesla’s Model 3 and 6,564 Volkswagens ID3. This means that the order in the top 3 is for the time being the same as the final score of 2020, although the Zoe feels the competition’s hot breath on his neck. The three most popular all-electric cars together account for 21.2 percent of all BEV sales in Western Europe.
Plug-in more popular
The Zoe was the most popular all-electric car in the first two months of this year, but it wasn’t the most popular car with a plug. That was the plug-in hybrid Volvo XC40. Volvo sold 6,932 of them, 74 more than Renault sold the Zoe. The top 3 plug-in hybrids are completed by the BMW 3-series with plug (5,581) and the plug-in hybrid Peugeot 3008 (5,192).
