Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles takes a look into the future. The brand highlights part of its future plans and immediately shows images of both the new Volkswagen Amarok and Multivan.
Within two years, Volkswagen is expanding its commercial vehicle range with the fully electric ID.Buzz, a van with a strong retro design inspired by the T1s and T2s. This ID.Buzz is already on the road in an autonomous form in Germany this year.
However, it doesn’t stop with the ID.Buzz. For example, Volkswagen reports that it will also present the new Amarok and Multivan within two years.
Amarok
Volkswagen already showed a sketch of the new Amarok around this time last year and repeats that trick today. It is still a design sketch, but this second drawing gives a slightly more concrete representation. The Amarok appears to have a much more angularly designed body than the current model, complete with relatively flat, sharply-lined LED daytime running lights that are located high in the front and optically tied together. It will be the first Volkswagen commercial vehicle to be developed by the brand together with Ford. Under the skin, the car will soon share most of its technology with the next generation Ford Ranger. In 2019, Ford and Volkswagen signed a deal that included a collaboration between the two companies in the field of commercial vehicles. According to previous information, the Amarok will go into production next year. Once on the market, it gets pick-ups like the Toyota Hilux, Mitsubishi L200 / Triton and Nissan Navara as competitors.
Multivan
Volkswagen also shows a teaser of what is most likely the nose of the new Multivan. That seems to be a passenger bus that will be placed in the range next to the current T7 Transporter, the van version. The Multivan will probably have a relatively short nose with striking LED lighting. The LED daytime running lights are almost completely interconnected, although the Volkswagen emblem in the center of the nose breaks things somewhat. The Multivan has been caught outside in camouflage costume before. The space giant seems to get split A-pillars and, thanks to the presence of sliding doors, promises to be very practical.
