Mini shows a picture of a three-door with a whole box of LED lighting around it. That in itself is not very relevant, but the car hiding in the darkness may be.
Mini’s teaser picture is on Twitter provided with the hashtag ‘ElectricThrillMaximised’. That ‘Maximized’ is of course a nice nod to the brand name, but the content is more interesting. Mini previously announced an electric car on a John Cooper Works theme and it could just be that we are looking at it now.
After some tinkering with the clarity of the photo, a Mini appears with remarkably broad shoulders. The fender widening is reminiscent of the downright bizarre plating of the Mini John Cooper Works GP, as the most powerful Mini ever is called. The rear bumper also looks similarly fierce, although the position of the dual-barrel tailpipe is filled by what appears to be an LED rear fog lamp.
Speaking of lighting: the LED lighting in the photo cannot be missed. Perhaps it is therefore ‘just’ a one-off Safety Car for a yet to be announced racing class. Since Mini is devoting a teaser to it and apparently it is an electric car, there seems to be more to it.
An electric GP-like is in fact a revitalized version of the Mini-E as we already know it. Making that already very nice driving car faster and more fun may mean that a second electric motor will be installed, with which the Mini suddenly becomes a four-wheel drive.
