Mercedes-Benz EQS on the inside

Mercedes-Benz knows how to build up the tension for the EQS well. The electric flagship shows itself bit by bit, with the focus until now mainly on the MBUX Hyperscreen in the interior. Now some other remarkable aspects of the EQS are also highlighted.

Little by little, Mercedes-Benz completes the puzzle surrounding the EQS. The emphasis seems to be mainly on the MBUX Hyperscreen, the 1.41 meter wide screen that covers almost the entire width of the dashboard. There was also a glimpse of both the interior and the exterior, but the final appearance of the EQS is keeping Mercedes-Benz under its cap for a while. However, based on spy photos and the information already released, a nice picture of the electric rangetopper is already emerging. The complete interior of the EQS is now on display. With and without Hyperscreen.

Aerodynamic bow

According to Mercedes-Benz, the appearance is given the typical EQ style characteristics such as the light bands at the front and rear and a ‘Black Panel front’, which presumably indicates a dense grille-like shape in black à la EQC and EQA. The bodywork is drawn from one arch, the so-called ‘one-bow design’. That, in combination with the fact that the cabin of the EQS has been placed relatively far forward, makes it recognizable as an EV at a glance. It should also provide more interior space in the interior. Furthermore, the arc ensures that the EQS is very streamlined. Mercedes-Benz specifies a cW value of 0.20, although you have to tick certain wheels on the option list and the car must be in sport mode. That cW value is all the more special when you compare it with other models. For example, the A-class sedan has a value of 0.22, while the much smaller Volkswagen XL1 has a cW value of 0.186. Given the size of the EQS, that 0.20 is quite a good performance.

Mercedes-Benz also places particular emphasis on the hyperscreen and self-learning ability of the car when listing the highlights of the EQS. We have already extensively discussed the hyperscreen, which consists of two 12.3-inch screens and one 17.7-inch screen. This seemingly huge display distinguishes itself from other touchscreens in that it offers haptic feedback and is pressure sensitive, so pressing harder can have a different effect than soft pressing. In addition, a special coating on the screen makes cleaning easier. According to Mercedes-Benz, you no longer have to go through endless menu structures thanks to the ‘zero layer’ user interface, which always shows the most frequently used functions and the car itself makes suggestions based on the driver’s usage habits.

Incidentally, the hyperscreen is not standard available in the EQS. There will also be a basic version without a hyperscreen, with a 12.3-inch screen in front of you and a 12.8-inch touchscreen positioned vertically in the center. This layout is therefore comparable to the dashboard of the S-class. The head-up display also comes in two different variants, of which the already known augmented reality head-up display is the most extensive.

Sleep mode

With up to 350 sensors, depending on the options selected, the EQS measures various parameters in and around the vehicle, which the self-learning ‘brain’ of the car then responds to with algorithms. The car also adjusts the atmosphere in the interior according to the mood of the driver, whereby the EQS plays soothing natural sounds through the 15-speaker Burmester audio system, for example. Think of a forest with falling leaves, the sounds of the sea and a summer shower. According to Mercedes-Benz, this brings peace to busy traffic. Another striking feature is the ‘power nap mode’, for those who want a short nap along the highway. The car then closes all curtains and creates the right atmosphere with sound, light and scent to doze off. Handy for the fast charger.

Detailed information on the battery capacity, range, payload and performance of the EQS is not yet released by Mercedes-Benz. The electric top model is said to be able to travel 700 kilometers on one battery charge. The official unveiling of the EQS will follow very soon, production will start later this year in Sindelfingen.
