The Notification Center on Mac provides you with notifications about apps and software updates, but it can also be quite disturbing. We show you how to (temporarily) turn it off.
Disable Notification Center on Mac
Just like in iOS, OS X contains the Notification Center, which you open on the Mac by clicking the button at the far right of the menu bar. The Notification Center contains a Today screen, where you can find your daily schedule, and the Notifications screen where all notifications are collected. In itself a useful feature, although it can be quite disturbing if you receive notifications while you are working. Some users may never open Notification Center.
Notification Center can be turned off by using Do Not Disturb mode, even if it only works temporarily. However, there is a trick that will stop you from receiving notifications. We explain it in the steps below.
- Open the Settings app on your Mac and click on ‘Notifications’;
- Enable Do Not Disturb mode by ticking the feature first. It is important that there is one minute between the start and end time. So choose for example 07:01 and 07:00;
- Close the Settings app to complete the process.
Once you have completed these steps, you will no longer see Notification Center notifications on your Mac. Make sure you choose the correct times for Do Not Disturb mode. Keep one minute between the two times to ensure that the function is always activated. If you prefer not to, enter something else.
By the way, you can continue to use the Notification Center by simply clicking the button. If you still want to receive notifications again, go through the steps described again and switch off Do not disturb mode.
