AirDrop tips: 5 useful files to share

Whether you share a contact person, URL of a website or photo, chances are that you use apps like Gmail, WhatsApp, Facebook or WeTransfer for this. A shame, because Apple has incorporated an excellent function in iOS with AirDrop, which can perform all these tasks not only more efficiently, but also a lot faster.

Sharing a file via AirDrop is also very simple: tap the share icon and you will immediately see the devices in your immediate vicinity that are available for AirDrop. Your Mac, for example, but also the iPhone or Apple devices of your colleagues and family members.

5 file types that you can share at lightning speed with AirDrop

1. Send photos and videos

The best-known way to use AirDrop has to do with taking photos and videos. Select the files in your photo gallery and you can send them to another device nearby at lightning speed. If you have taken several photos, you can send them one by one via WhatsApp, but via AirDrop it works a lot faster. We do this regularly, for example, with long and large video files that we have made on the iPhone 7 Plus and want to send to the Mac.

2. Share apps

You can share an iOS app by looking up the url via the App Store and forwarding it, but did you know that you can also press the app icon firmly with 3D Touch? In the menu that appears you can tap on share, after which you can immediately share them without opening the App Store. The recipient in turn immediately opens the correct page and can install or view the app immediately.

3. Share podcasts

Of course, if you’ve discovered a fun podcast episode, you’ll want to share it with others. Instead of opening a separate chat app to share a link, you can easily send a podcast with AirDrop, after which the recipient immediately receives the correct page. To do this, go to the podcast page, tap share and choose the person from the AirDrop window.
