Fast charging an iPhone is easier than you think. In this tip we show the different ways with which you can get the battery of your iPhone to 100 percent faster.
Fast charging an iPhone: that’s how you do it
A common criticism about the iPhone is the slow charging speed. Android smartphones that are a lot cheaper than Apple’s phones can be recharged in an instant, while an iPhone often has to spend hours on the charger to be able to do without for a while.
That is not so much due to the iPhones themselves; they have been supporting fast charging for many years. The problem lies in the adapter that Apple puts in the box of the iPhone as standard. The iPhone 11 was the first in which Apple added an 18 Watt adapter to the box. The rest of the iPhones are still sold with a 5 Watt adapter. This is not powerful enough to charge an iPhone quickly, even if the iPhone itself is capable of this.

With this 5 Watt adapter you need about three hours to get the battery from zero to one hundred percent. Fortunately, this can be done a lot faster, although you will have to purchase a new adapter for that. There are two ways to fill your iPhone battery faster: faster charging and real fast charging.
Fashion model | Maximum charging speed |
---|---|
iPhone 12 (mini / Pro / Pro Max) | 20W |
iPhone SE (2020) | 18W |
iPhone 11 (Pro / Pro Max) | 18W |
iPhone XS (Max) | 15W |
iPhone XR | 15W |
iPhone X | 15W |
iPhone 8 (Plus) | 15W |
iPhone 7 (Plus) | 10W |
Option 1: Charge iPhone faster with an iPad adapter
The cheapest way to charge your iPhone faster is with the adapter that Apple supplies with the iPad. This larger adapter has a capacity of 12 Watt, with which you can charge an iPhone up to 70 percent faster. In 40 minutes, the battery is already half full. This does not apply to the iPhone 11 series, which already has an 18 Watt charger.
In this iPad adapter you can just plug the Lightning cable that comes with the iPhone. You can also use this charger to charge iPhones older than the iPhone 8 faster.

Option 2: iPhone fast charging with USB-C adapter
If you really want to fast charge an iPhone at the highest possible speed, you will have to dig a little deeper if you have an older model iPhone. First, only iPhone 8 or later supports fast charging. In addition, you will have to purchase a USB-C adapter from Apple. These adapters are actually used to charge MacBooks, but can also top up the batteries of iPhones (and iPads) at high speed.
This charger is already quite pricey at 60 euros, but it does not stop there. You also need a new cable from Lightning-to-USB-C to connect your iPhone to the adapter. This costs 25 euros, which puts the total counter at 85 euros to charge your iPhone as quickly as possible.

With these accessories you can charge an iPhone battery for half in half an hour. The other fifty percent takes a little longer, because the iPhone keeps the quality of the battery good.

Conclusion: our advice
As far as we are concerned, purchasing an iPad battery for 25 euros is the best choice for most people to charge the iPhone faster. If that speed is not enough and you have about 85 euros for it, then it is of course even better to buy a USB-C charger. What we mainly hope is that Apple makes faster charging of your iPhone more accessible, by putting a better adapter in the box. Because you would expect that for smartphones with the price tag of an iPhone.
