Spotify discount: this way you can listen to music services at an affordable price
There are three ways to listen to music services at a discount. You can take out a family subscription, take out a student package, pay annually in advance and combine services. In this article we will discuss all the ways to listen to music at a discount.
1. Listening with the family
Firstly, you can take out a family subscription. This allows you to split the monthly amount with a maximum of five family members, which saves you money. In the meantime, everyone has their own account, which can all be used at the same time.
All well-known music streaming services offer family subscriptions for 15 euros per month. It does not matter whether you listen with two, four or six people, so you pay at least 2.50 euros per month:
- Sign up for a family subscription to Apple Music
- Take a family subscription to Deezer
- Take out a family subscription to Spotify
- Take out a family subscription to Tidal
After taking out a family plan, you must invite the rest of your family members by email. With Apple Music, Family Sharing must be turned on. The only condition is that all participants must live at the same address. In practice, this rule is not strictly enforced, although reports of unexpected tests sometimes crop up.

2. Student prize
Students are often short of cash. All well-known music services therefore offer a cheaper student subscription for EUR 4.99 per month, instead of EUR 9.99. This allows you to listen to music ad-free, download songs and create playlists, but for less. The following music streamers have a student subscription:
- Take out a student subscription with Apple Music
- Take out a student subscription with Deezer
- Take out a student subscription with Spotify
- Take out a student subscription with Tidal
Of course you have to be registered with a college or university to listen to music more cheaply. Moreover, you can only use the student subscription for four years, after which it is automatically converted to the more expensive version.
When applying for the account, you must indicate at which college or university you are studying and, if necessary, provide your student number or e-mail address. Every other year a check is made to see if you are still registered, for example by e-mail.
3. Annual subscription
You can also listen to some music services at a discount by paying directly for the whole year. This is only possible with Apple Music and Deezer and in combination with an individual subscription. As a result, you do not pay 120 euros per year, but 100 euros. It is not possible to make advance payments for your family.
4. Combine
Finally, you can combine services with each other. When you use the internet, call or watch TV via KPN, you can benefit from a 1 euro discount on Spotify every month. This offer is valid on both an individual and family subscription. This means you pay 8.99 and 13.99 euros in the month, instead of 9.99 and 14.99 euros.

Do you have a telephone subscription from T-Mobile? Then you can listen to Deezer at a discount. You pay 6.99 euros per month, but please note: early cancellation is not possible. Add the subscription by going to My T-Mobile, pressing ‘Change subscription’ and selecting Deezer.

Do you use Headspace to clear your mind? By combining the subscription with Spotify, you have even less (financial) worries. For 14.99 euros per month you can take out the special Spotify Headspace bundle, with which you can use both apps. The music meditation subscription costs only 10 euros for the first three months.
