Set a Google Maps parking location
If you have a car, you have undoubtedly forgotten where you parked it. By activating the Google Maps parking location from now on, you can be sure that you can walk straight to your car at the end of the day.
In addition, Google has added extensive options that allow you to further specify the location and add notes. This is useful, for example, if you are on the second floor of a parking garage, something you cannot see on the map.
In the Android app it is possible to add notes about, for example, the floor of a parking garage and a timer for your paid parking time. This is not possible at all on iOS, but you can activate that your parking location is automatically saved. That way you never have to think about it again, and you can find where your car is at any time.
This is how you set up a Google Maps parking location
- Open Google Maps when you have parked the car;
- Tap the blue dot that indicates your location;
- Select ‘Set as parking space’;
- A purple pin with a P will now appear on the map.
When you get back to your car, you can manually delete the parking location. If you leave it, it will be automatically replaced when you plan a new location. If you regularly park in unknown places, it is more convenient to set your parking location automatically. You do this as follows.
- Open Google Maps;
- In the search bar on the left, tap the hamburger menu and then ‘Settings’;
- Select the ‘Navigation’ menu here and scroll down;
- Set the slider behind ‘Save parking space’ to blue. If necessary, give permission to use your exercise and fitness activity from the pop-up menu that appears.
In addition to remembering your parking space, Google Maps offers many more useful functions. For example, the app helps you to navigate through Schiphol and you can easily share the route and progress of your journey, so that your friends can check what time you will arrive.
