Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos pulls the door close to Dacia and Lada after just a year, reports Automobilwoche. The departure seems to come as a surprise.
Last summer, Mesonero-Romanos exchanged Seat for Groupe Renault, where he gained control of the Dacia and Lada brands. An asset to both brands, because the Spaniard is an experienced and respected designer. He previously worked for Renault as well. Now, however, he would have left shortly after his appointment, reports Automobilwoche, that the news was confirmed by Dacia. The magazine describes it as a ‘disappointment for Groupe Renault CEO Luca de Meo’, so it seems to be a departure initiated from Mesonero-Romanos.
As mentioned, the 53-year-old designer previously worked at Seat, where he also worked under De Meo’s leadership. Mesonero-Romanos was one of the founders of the previous and current Seat Leon, but also the Seats Ateca, Ibiza, Arona, Tarraco and the Cupras Born, Formentor and Tavascan. At Renault, he oversaw the design of the Laguna Coupé. It is not known to what extent Dacia and Lada were able to reap the benefits of his work in the short period he was employed there.
