Mercedes-Benz is working on a new generation of the Citan and the passenger version will be called T-class. There will be an electric version of this, called EQT. Are we still there? The EQT Concept looks ahead to that.
To refresh: Mercedes-Benz and Renault have teamed up again to develop a new generation of compact vans and passenger vans. Renault recently released the new Kangoo and there is also a fully electric version of it: the E-tech Electric. Mercedes-Benz is presenting the twin brother of the new Kangoo this year, which again goes by the name Citan. The electric version, Mercedes’ equivalent of the Kangoo E-tech Electric, is called eCitan. Then there is also the more luxurious passenger version of the Citan, which will go through life as a T-class (photo 2 and 3). The electric version is called EQT, to follow in the footsteps of the V-class and EQV in terms of naming. Basically, however, it is the same car as the eCitan.
The arrival of the EQT is of course the most ‘special’ news and Mercedes-Benz is happy to help. On May 10, the brand pulls the curtain off the EQT Concept, which we can already see from the front in a shadowy teaser photo. Basically, the EQT Concept will probably show the necessary similarities with the new Citan and thus also the new Kangoo, but with the somewhat tighter lighting, the dense grille and the rounder shapes that are characteristic of the EQ models. It is also likely that the appearance of the EQT clearly distances itself from the electric eCitan and that the eCitan only differs very subtly from the Citans with a fuel engine. In the second half of this year it will become clear, because then Mercedes will unveil the Citan, eCitan and probably also the T-class and EQT.
