Volkswagen will split the Transporter more than before into two model lines. The current generation T6 will be allowed to continue as a company car in the coming years and will get a completely new Multivan next to it. On a new teas sketch, Volkswagen already shows the front of that new, more MPV-like passenger bus.
The current Volkswagen Transporter, the T6, still shares its basis with the T5 launched in 2003. Although the Transporter is actually a very old model, the commercial vehicle can still use it for a while in the coming years. However, the practical passenger version of that bus, the Multivan, will be replaced by a completely new space giant. The two spatial Volkswagens will in any case be sold side by side for a number of years and on this teaser sketch it is already visible which nose the new Multivan will get.
The new Multivan has a fairly short snout with modern LED lighting. The daytime running lights in the headlights have a C-shaped signature, but also have a horizontal part that optically merges into a wide LED strip that is located centrally on the front and is only interrupted by the Volkswagen logo. From previous spy photos of the new Volkswagen Multivan, it could already be concluded that the moving ballroom will not only have sliding doors, but also split A-pillars for a good view to the front.
Volkswagen Multivan
Volkswagen indicates, among other things, that a conventional gear lever is missing in the Multivan and that suggests that the new generation of the soon more MPV-like Multivan will have a small selector lever that hides shift-by-wire technology. The Multivan will soon be equipped with a DSG automatic transmission as standard and will therefore no longer be available with a manual gearbox. The new control element of the machine is attached to the cover of the instruments, just like the ID3. The Multivan also gets a 10-inch multimedia screen and is always equipped with an automatic handbrake. The space between the front seats will soon be ‘walkable’, handy for jumping between the bickering kids in the back. At a standstill, of course.
Also new in the Multivan: the bus does not have a rear seat in the third row of seats. Instead, there are individual seats on both the second and third row of seats. According to Volkswagen, those seats are easily removable. In addition, they are placed on rails so that they can be slid both forwards and backwards. Each Multivan will soon have a multifunctional table in the back that is also placed on rails.
