Williams Advanced Engineering and Italdesign team up

Williams Advanced Engineering (WAE) joins none other than the Italian Italdesign. The two companies will jointly offer turnkey modular EV platforms that other car manufacturers will soon be able to benefit from.

Williams Advanced Engineering, a branch of the Williams Formula 1 team, has had a modular platform for electric cars in the development rooms since 2017 that goes by the name EVX. The EVX platform comes with an integrated battery pack that is part of the chassis and thus increases the stiffness of the whole. The EVX platform can be used by various car manufacturers, Williams Advanced Engineering said a few years ago, and the company is now renewing that message. To be able to offer an even more complete product, Williams Advanced Engineering is now entering into a partnership with Italdesign.

Manufacturers who turn to Williams Advanced Engineering will receive the modular EVX platform from the company in which Italdesign builds safety systems and an infotainment system, among other things. In addition, Italdesign is happy to draw a carriage around the whole. We already get an impression of a crossover, sedan, coupé and convertible.

However, do not expect the modular platform to gain space under volume models. The two companies state that the base is suitable for cars in the top tier of the premium corner of Autoland and refer to models as “high performance GTs, crossovers and sedans”. Each model to be built is limited to 10,000 pieces, of which Italdesign can build 500 itself. According to Williams Advanced Engineering, the EVX platform and associated electric motors and battery packs are suitable for power ratings of up to 1,360 hp and an electric lung capacity of 104 to 160 kWh. The base is suitable for cars with a wheelbase of 2.9 to 3.1 meters and offers the option of rear and all-wheel drive.
