Nightly helps you achieve a better night’s sleep. The app does this by means of a scientifically based method. We give three reasons to give Nightly a try.
Nightly: a better night’s sleep in three steps
According to research by Multiscope from 2017, six in ten Dutch people experience sleep problems. They find it difficult to sleep through all at once, find it difficult to relax and feel well lethargic in the morning. Several apps are available for these people, including Nightly. This app is aimed at improving sleep and learning a healthy sleep rhythm. The app does this in three ways.
1. Fall asleep faster
Firstly, with Nightly you fall asleep easier and faster. When you go to sleep, start the app and activate ‘sleep mode’. The screen is now completely black, so you can no longer be distracted. A soothing music also starts to play in the background. The makers’ own research shows that 69 percent of people fall asleep faster as a result.
2. Less nightmares
In addition, the app reduces the risk of nightmares. Nightly does this in a pretty innovative way. When you go to sleep, you are supposed to place your iPhone next to your head on the bed, so the helpful app will monitor your movements.
When he notices that you are restless, for example because you are rolling a lot, he plays specific audio fragments. These should calm you down again, while you are sleeping. You can select these pieces of music yourself in advance.
3. No more waking up at night
Finally, Nightly has ‘Sleep Stimulation’. This is a specially developed AI technology (artificial intelligence) that detects your sleep pattern over time and responds to it. As soon as the app notices that, for example, you are always startled awake around 3 a.m., it automatically plays a soothing music in the minutes prior to this.
At some point, this technique also learns at what time you always wake up. Turns out that this is an awkward time, for example because you are just entering a new phase of REM sleep, the app makes a suggestion for a better time.
Furthermore, the app has all kinds of statistics about your sleep rhythm, daily reminders for building a healthy rhythm and an integration with the Apple Health app. As a critic, we would never like to add that some sleep experts and scientists are of the opinion that smartphones in the bedroom are out of the question.
