iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and tvOS 27 include several major changes, new options and capabilities. Perhaps the most important thing is the optimization of the software. View our overview of iOS 27 tips for all the possibilities for iPhone and iPad, and with our tips for macOS Golden Gate you can get the most out of your Mac.

In addition, the software updates mainly contain a lot of small changes that benefit daily use. This includes: better switching between WiFi and mobile data, automatically changing weak passwords in the background and adjusting the Liquid Glass effect for better readability. Below you will find the new part of even more minor changes in iOS 27 and other software version 27.

No moving reflections

Apple has further improved Liquid Glass in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. One notable change is that the dynamic reflections in app icons have been removed. This glow responded to the device’s movements, but sometimes caused icons to appear out of focus or visually lean to one side. This happened because the reflection effect was layered on top of the app symbol.

The app icons retain subtle light accents, but they are now static and mainly visible at the top and bottom. Apple is making this change to make the icons sharper, smoother, and easier to read, while retaining the layered Liquid Glass look on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Support for ultrawide displays

Starting with macOS 27, the Mac will get better support for ultrawide displays, allowing you to use higher resolutions on suitable screens, such as 5K at 120 Hz, with a sharper and smoother image. Apple also ensures that the screen layout is remembered, so that when you reconnect your monitors, they return exactly as you set them up.

XXL widgets

With the XXL widgets in iOS 27, iPadOS 27 and macOS 27, apps get an extra large widget size that allows them to show much more information at once, without having to open the app. On iPhone and iPad, this variant is intended for the Home screen and Today view, on a Mac it works best on the desktop.

In practice, it is especially useful for apps such as Calendar, Weather, Music and Photos, because you immediately get a better overview of appointments, recommendations or content. This way you can keep the app running in the background and the information will be updated regularly.

Link time to Diary

From now on, you can record not only a date, but also a time in Diary items, so that each moment is shown more precisely in your overview and you can better see when exactly something was recorded. In addition to the timestamps, you can also add richer journal entries that give more context to your journal entries.
