‘Honda Sports EV Concept may still be in production’

Honda presented a sleek retro coupe, the Sports EV Concept, almost four years ago. Unfortunately, it did not come to a production version, but that may change.

Honda came up with two promising concept cars in 2017 that unite the past with the present. First there was the Urban EV Concept, which eventually dried up as the Honda e. A few months later, the Sports EV Concept appeared. That was clearly a sportier brother of the Urban EV, drawn according to the same retro design philosophy. The first went into production, the second not yet. It may still happen, because the Japanese car sensor states that it has heard from a reliable source within Honda that something is bubbling around the Sports EV.

In the meantime, driving prototypes are said to be present at Honda’s headquarters in Tokyo and they are reportedly busy with further development of the car. It would also really be a sportier brother of the Honda e, because according to the medium Honda uses the same basis. That would not be surprising, since the e is currently the only car with that basis. If that basis is indeed used, the Sports EV can count on at least 136 or 154 electric horsepower and a 35.5 kWh battery pack, although we can imagine that Honda wants to boost those values first.

If a production version of the Sports EV Concept actually appears, it remains to be seen whether it will also come this way. It is being tipped as a possible successor to the Honda S660, which appears to be out of production in 2022. That cool two-seater is also not available here, so the question is whether a possible successor will change that. Perhaps the electric powertrain offers sufficient conviction to make its mark in Europe as well.
