Yesterday we had a very current Oldsmobile from the 50s on the podium in this section, today it is a slightly less shiny Peugeot 305 Break. It’s definitely worth taking a look at for a number of reasons!
After all, the Peugeot 305 is one of the many cars from the 70s and 80s that you once walked past carelessly because you saw them everywhere, but are now worth a second look. After all, there are no longer many among us. A large part has left for abroad and of course many have also found the eternal rust fields in the Netherlands. However, this 305 Break from 1983 is not and it seems that it is still used as daily transport.
This is evident from the condition of the car, among other things. The 305 that we have in front of us here thanks to Techzle reader Niels Hessels is not in the least bad shape, but no restoration has yet taken place. A dent here, a scratch there, a somewhat dull lacquer layer and a stray rust spot shows that. We secretly like to see them very much. After all, this must be a 305 that has been treated with care in its life, otherwise you won’t get the 38 in such a way. Also, it probably means that it doesn’t just come out on nice days for a short pleasure ride.
To go out daily with about 305 is not a punishment. Of course it all feels a bit dated, but the 305 was known for a long time as a nice car to drive and partly for that reason it could remain on the market for no less than 12 years. In the Netherlands it stopped a little earlier, but in his last year here, almost 2,000 305s were sold.
The copy in question was not delivered new in the Netherlands, but was imported in 2019 and has only been with its current owner for less than three months. It is an SR and that was the top version of the 305 in the early years. In the nose is a 1.5 petrol engine that is good for 73 hp power. A power source from a long-running engine family from Peugeot, which started with the 204 in the mid-1960s and finally (as 1.3) in the 305 only found its Waterloo in 1986.
