Ford confirms the suspicion that a compact pickup named Ford Maverick is in the pipeline. The car will be unveiled soon, albeit probably not for Europe.
The Ford Maverick, previously seen in spy footage, is announced with the help of actress Gabrielle Union. It is therefore given a more prominent place on the teaser pictures than the car itself. Yet it is clear that it is not a Ford Bronco or Ford Bronco Sport, but a model that also follows its own path at the height of the A-pillar. The Maverick seems to be drawn in the same cool style.
In an attached video we get a short look at the back of the Maverick, on which the model name is spread wide. That looks cool and that is what the car is, according to Ford. The Americans reportedly want to park this model under the already very compact Ranger by American standards. It must be a ‘truck’ for those who often do their rounds both in the city and beyond, and do not want to be limited in what can be taken with them.
Santa Cruz
As a super compact pick-up, the Ford Maverick seems to soon hit another newcomer on its path: the Hyundai Santa Cruz. The Ford also seems to have a full-fledged double cabin, with a ditto rear seat and rear doors.
The Koreans may be unleashing a huge trend for the US and perhaps also Central and South America. At first glance, a compact pick-up also seems interesting for Europe. However, the problem is, certainly in the case of the Netherlands, that these vehicles seldom qualify for the tax benefits that do apply to larger pick-ups.
The unveiling of the new Ford Maverick is scheduled for June 8, so early next week.
Maverick
Ford already used the name ‘Maverick’ in the 1970s for a compact model for the American market. In the nineties we got to know the Ford Maverick in Europe, although it was then the Ford brother of the Nissan Terrano II. The next Ford SUV, which shared its technical base with the Mazda Tribute, was also called Maverick in the European countries where it was delivered.
