BMW X3 and X4 renewed

BMW carries out a facelift in one smooth movement on both the X3 and X4. The two SUVs get a modified front and the X3 is also tackled at the rear. There is also news in the field of motorcycles. The revised X3 and X4 will hit dealers in August. Techzle already has the prices.

The facelift that BMW is carrying out on the X3 and X4 goes a little further than you may be used to from an LCI (Life Cycle Impulse) from the manufacturer from Munich. The two SUVs get a different snout in which new, flatter headlights and a larger grille determine the image. As with the electric iX3, the kidney grille has been fused into a single unit. Of course, revised bumper work cannot be missed. The rear lights have also been overhauled. Its layout is completely new, the light signature contrasts strongly with the black housing of the units. LED headlights are standard on the X3, models with BMW Laser Light technology are optional. The X4 has adaptive LED matrix viewers as standard.

BMW X4

As usual, the M Sport models look a lot sportier. They have larger openings in the bumper, gloss black inserts and black trim around the windows. The roof rails are also finished in black. If you also want the bars of the grille in glossy black, you should pay for it. The M Sport variants are available on special alloy wheels in the size 19-inch, 20- and 21-inch wheels are optionally available. The same goes for M Sport brakes with blue or red calipers.

BMW X3

Both the BMW X3 and the BMW X4 will receive a new interior. Since the X3 and X4 are from 2017 and 2018 respectively, the duo had a dashboard that closely resembled that of the previous 3 Series. The two SUVs now have a workplace that is almost identical to that of the current 3 and 4 series. In the center of the center console is a 10.25-inch display that belongs to the infotainment system. A 12.3-inch large screen is optional. Behind the steering wheel is now a standard 10.25-inch digital instrumentation, the so-called BMW Live Cockpit. The X3 and X4 are available with Driver Assistant Professional for the first time. Also new is the arrival of the optional BMW Drive Recorder, a system that makes video recordings of the immediate surroundings of the car. The two SUVs also benefit from the arrival of new software for the infotainment system.

BMW X4

In addition to news on the design level, there is also news regarding the engines with which the X3 and X4 are available. For example, all petrol engines are now equipped with mild-hybrid technology. Both the X3 and X4 are available as 184 hp xDrive20i, as 245 hp xDrive30i and as 360 hp M40i. The M40i is a so-called M Performance model, although there will also be real M models (X3 M and X4 M). Diesel is possible in the X3 from the sDrive18d with 150 hp. The 190 hp xDrive20d is the entry-level diesel of the X4, a machine that is also available in the X3. Higher on the diesel list are the 286 hp xDrive30d’s and the monster diesels that listen to the name M40d. The M40d’s have a 340 hp six-cylinder diesel as the power plant.

Just like before, the X3 is the only one of the bunch that is available with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. BMW also supplies the X3 as an xDrive30e. The powertrain of that plug-in has a system power of 292 hp. The battery pack of the X3 xDrive30e is good for an electric range of 50 kilometers. Shifting is done in all X3s and X4s with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. However, the M40i’s and M40d’s and all X4’s have an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission, complete with paddle shifters and Launch Control. This transmission is optional for all remaining engine versions of the X3.

The new BMW X3 and X4 will be launched in the Netherlands in August. The X3 has a starting price of € 64,769. For the renewed X4 you have lost at least € 67,362. The two SUVs are produced in the American Spartanburg.
