The best iOS apps at a glance
The App Store has added thousands of new apps in the past week. For example, a Mac app for Inbox by Gmail was released, Tumblr received a major update and a handy app appeared to free up storage space.
Do you have a lot of photos on your iPhone and you want to delete unnecessary snapshots, but you don’t know where to start? Then use PhotoPanda to quickly clean up photos and free up space. PhotoPanda scans your entire Camera Roll and places unnecessary snapshots in different categories. For example, dark or blurry photos are placed together, but also duplicate photos, screenshots and selfies.
Firefox maker Mozilla has launched a separate app to block trackers while browsing with Safari. Trackers monitor your surfing behavior and are often hidden in advertisements. Unlike ad blockers, Focus is purely about stopping these trackers, although in some cases this also includes advertisements.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if the ocean suddenly disappeared? That’s exactly what happens in Flewn. When you start the app, you get the choice: do you want to view Flewn as a story or play it as a game. If you choose the latter, you see the story from the point of view of a frog flying through the sky. However, we recommend that you try Flewn as a moving book first. You can view the story by swiping the screen of your iPhone or iPad.
Tumblr has updated its iOS app. iPhone 6S (Plus) users can now upload Live Photos and make them come to life using 3D Touch. Tumblr is the first third party app that supports moving photos, so you can share these types of images directly from the app or your Camera Roll. Live Photos can be recognized in the app by the icon at the top or bottom left.
Wallpaper (no typo) is a small app that crops cool images from design website Dribbble and makes them suitable as wallpapers for your iPhone. With a few presses you can give your device a new look. You don’t necessarily need to log in with a Dribbble account from within the app, although it is recommended to access more than a handful of wallpapers.
In addition to Apple Music and Spotify, Deezer is one of the best-known music services for iOS, but it was not yet possible to listen to and control music from the app via CarPlay. With an update, the app joins the limited number of third party apps that do have this functionality, such as Spotify, audiobooks app Audible and podcast apps Stitcher and Overcast.
The entertaining puzzle game Cut the Rope 2 has been named Free App of the Week by Apple. The game is similar to its predecessor, but improves the game series considerably. In Cut the Rope 2 you will meet new characters and go through colorful game worlds that look more beautiful than in the first part. Levels are divided into different worlds, each with its own theme and sounds. For example, you make your way through a forest, scrap yard, city and bakery.
Inbox by Gmail is one of the best Gmail apps on iOS, but there wasn’t a good app for it on the Mac yet. Now he is there and his name is Boxy. The app was not made by Google itself, but it is a neat transfer of the original. The emails are collected in bundles, such as ‘Updates’ or ‘Social’ and you can pin or snooze messages yourself. If you click on an email, the message expands within the inbox, so that you can also check other email titles.
In I Wanna Be A Hero you step into the shoes of a young hero with an octopus on his head and a branch in his hand. The game is very reminiscent of the PC game Crypt of the NecroDancer, because of the chosen style and the way the levels are built up in blocks. While that game specifically requires you to move to a beat, that’s not the case with I Wanna Be A Hero. You do take loose steps over the blocky surface.
