iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27 and tvOS 27 include several major changes, new options and capabilities. Perhaps the most important thing is the optimization of the software. View our overview of iOS 27 tips for all the possibilities for iPhone and iPad, and with our tips for macOS Golden Gate you can get the most out of your Mac.

In addition, the software updates mainly contain a lot of small changes that benefit daily use. This includes: better switching between WiFi and mobile data, automatically changing weak passwords in the background and adjusting the Liquid Glass effect for better readability. Below you will find the new part of even more minor changes in iOS 27 and other software version 27.

Save video image as photo

Now you can save a specific video image directly as a photo in Photos and QuickTime, without taking a screenshot first. This is useful if you want to capture that exact moment from a clip, because the result is a real image from the video itself rather than a screen recording with buttons or borders around it.

Scroll to the moment you want in a video and tap the three dots on an iPhone or iPad to use the ‘Save video as photo’ option. On a Mac you will find this option in the menu bar behind ‘Image’. This is also possible in QuickTime for Mac by clicking on the paused video with a secondary click (right mouse button) and choosing ‘Share image’.

Symbols in menus

With the release of macOS 27, Apple has chosen to remove most symbols from the menus, resulting in quieter and faster-scannable menus compared to macOS Tahoe. However, in macOS Tahoe, icons were added extensively, so that every menu item had a symbol. In the new version, Apple largely returns to that design and icons are only used where they really offer more clarity.

Album and artist pages in Music

Apple has added a new design for albums and artists in Music for Apple Music in software update 27, giving those pages a fresher and clearer look. For artists, you will now see important buttons and information more prominently, while album pages have also been updated to make the experience more visually consistent and modern.

This adjustment fits within the broader renewal of Apple Music in this update, in which Apple places more emphasis on overview, atmosphere and faster access to playback and favorite content.

Paste from clipboard into Finder

From macOS Golden Gate, you can paste items on your clipboard directly into Finder, so that, for example, an image from Messages, Mail or the web immediately ends up as a file in a folder. This makes it much faster to save individual images, screenshots or other copied content without having to take a detour first.
